So.. What Do Popsicles Have To Do With CoolSculpting Elite?
The story behind CoolSculpting (and now CoolSculpting Elite) is just as interesting as the amazing results CoolSculpting produces for our Bodify clients! In 2008, two doctors, Dr. Dieter Manstein from Massachusetts General Hospital and Dr. Rox Anderson from Harvard Medical School decided to research more about the popsicle phenomenon! It had been long-known that kids who frequently ate popsicles often got dimples on their cheeks; it was a common enough phenomenon that it earned the name “popsicle panniculitis.” The two doctors also looked into a documented case where a woman rode naked on her horse in cold weather resulting in fat loss on her inner thighs! Dr. Manstein and Dr. Anderson theorized an innovative hypothesis: perhaps the key to fat loss was freezing temperatures.
The doctors set out to test their theory, and developed the CoolSculpting technology, or rather: cryolipolysis! Cryo = icy cold + lipolysis = chemical decomposition of fat, or fat-freezing. They found that the cold kills fat cells faster than it can affect other types of body tissue such as nerves, skin, or muscle cells. Yes, kids were forming dimples in their cheeks by unknowingly freezing away their fat cells while enjoying their popsicles! The frozen popsicles caused an inflammation of the fat cells in the children’s mouths, ultimately leading to a loss of the fat cells. The team conducted successful clinical studies, at first targeting the flank (better known as those “love handles”), and earned CoolSculpting’s first FDA-clearance in 2010. Since then, the amazing fat-freezing technology has earned a total of nine FDA-clearances.
How Does CoolSculpting Elite Work?
Guess what? You don’t need to ride a horse nude in the snow (which would be hard to do in Phoenix,

When you set up an in-person or virtual consult for CoolSculpting Elite at Bodify, our team will assess your goals and whether CoolSculpting is an option for you. If so, we’ll create a custom plan to freeze your fat and contour your body.
During your CoolSculpting Elite treatment session, the improved Elite applicator will be suctioned to target your stubborn areas of subcutaneous fat (the kind you can pinch). This applicator is one of the differences between CoolSculpting and CoolSculpting Elite. Anesthesia is not necessary, but you may experience sensations of tugging, mild pinching, intense cold, tingling or cramping; however, these sensations quickly subside as the area becomes numb. Your certified CoolSculpting Elite technician will then massage the treated area following the procedure to reduce side effects and increase the fat-freezing process. The cooling process kills the fat cells, and then they’re attacked by your white blood cells, converting them to triglycerides which are then metabolized by your liver and expelled out of the body through the lymphatic system after a few weeks to a few months. What we’ve seen with CoolSculpting Elite (as compared to traditional CoolSculpting) is that our clients see more dramatic results in less time!
