body goalsSo many people set out to achieve a body goal yet so many people either give up or never get the progress they hoped for!

There can be countless reasons why people fall short. However 3 reasons I feel, based on personal experience, that really thwart body change progress are easy to identify and fix.

  1. Fearing fat. So many people, women in particular, try to remove fat from their diet. This is a huge mistake, we need fat in order to burn calories, stay alive and build muscle. People shouldn’t fear fat, they should fear eating the “wrong” type of fat. Yes, all fat is not created equal and despite what some say about calories in and calories out, the truth is the type of calories you eat will make a difference. Perhaps the actual number stays the same, but the impact it has on your body, energy level, ability to sleep, boost your metabolism and a slew of others things does matter and vary depending on what you eat. Eat healthy fats from foods like avocado, healthy wild caught fish, or organic nuts. These fats are healthy and will satiate you and help you achieve your goals.
  2. Not mixing up the routine. Our bodies can’t do the same thing day after day and be expected to change. If you go to the gym and do the same exercises, with the same intensity and for the same duration and never change it up, the body is well aware of how to handle it and not forced to change. Try mixing up the type of exercise, the intensity and the duration to keep your body guessing. Adding weights, if you aren’t already, is a critical competent of a balanced exercise routine that will help you achieve your goals.
  3. Eating too few calories. Yup you heard me right. I once talked to a fitness coach and nutrition expert and he said believe it or not many people actually eat too few calories. The result, a body that thinks it’s starving. When this happens a body holds on to each and every calories it eats (stores it as fat for later use) as it is not sure when it will get more calories. In addition, the metabolism slows which really prevents you from being efficient with the foods you eat and burning them off.

These 3 reasons may not be the 100% answer, but certainly take a look at each and every one to see if and how it may be impacting your body, health and fitness goals.
